Something overlooked in all the brouhaha about Tim Tebow's Super Bowl add, is the fact that he was home schooled & because Florida's law allows homeschooled students to play for the school in their district, he was able to play football. Now I don't know all the nuances of the Florida law, but if they can do it I would think West Virginia could.
A few years ago there was a court ruling that allowed this to happen, but the WVSSAC appealed it and won, so it was overturned. Now I can see both sides of the arguement. When this case was being tried there was much emotion on both sides. I am not going to get into all the arguements but the one I felt was the most important & that made sense from the WVSSAC side, was that it would be an easy way, if an athlete had grade problems, to take advantage of this system. Now granted the majority of the ones probably wouldn't abuse it, but there would be some.
A solution I think would be that the homeschool parent would be responsible for contacting the school, the student would be playing athletics anyway, and arrange for the student to take tests adminstered by the teacher of the class the student would take anyway.
Being a teacher, parent & a former coach, I realize this is oversimplified, but I'm sure the bugs could be worked out. Also WV could contact Florida officials to see how they did it. please feel free to post any comments

WHY THE CLASS WARFARE
I have trouble understanding why so many people want to tax "the Rich". Rich people can only do 2 things with their money, spend it or save it. If they spend it that creates more jobs. If they save it, unless they put it in a matress or can, that creates more jobs, because it either gives banks more money to loan to businesses, which enables them to expand. If they save it by investing that also helps business expand. Now they can also give it away, which would go under spending.
So why do so many people want to tax the rich. The more money the government takes from them in taxes, is less that they can, spend or save.
Another thing that bothers me is people complain about Bush's tax cuts only helping the "Rich". Well if you make more money its natural that your going to get more in a tax cut. And if you don't pay taxes your not going to get a tax cut.
If someone can explain that please let me know

THIS AINT YOUR PARENTS DEMOCRAT PARTY
A few months ago I posted about how this isn't your parents Democrat Party. Well since last nights results in Massachusettes I feel the need to update that post.
The Dems need to open their eyes. If a Republican can win in Massachusettes, that is so blue that it makes California look like a Republican heaven, it shows how out of touch this administration is. While they did elect Romney for Governor a few years & have a few Republicans in their Congress they have not went for a Republican since Reagan.
I feel this shows how out of touch with the average voter the Dems leadership is. While I was no fan of Clintons & I felt he governed by polls to much, he was smart enough to see when to give up or change his view, when the people were overwhelmingly against him.
Now look at us in West Virginia, during the last election Hilary carried West Virginia, but guess who are Dem leaders endorsed, some even before the primary, they endorsed Obama. Hilary carried the state by a landslide. Then during the general they again supported Obama & West Virginia went for McCain.
Even our local Dem leaders have bought into the Obama hype. A few months ago there was a protest in front of Mollohan's office, in Clarksburg against OBAMACARE, there was also a rally in support of it in front of the Dem HQ, where were Harrison County's congressional delegation not in front of Mollohans office protesting, most if not all were at the Dem HQ.
As I said earlier if you support abotion, continued tax increases, business leaving WV, the President holding secret meetings, legally bribing Congressional leaders, raming legislation thru when the large majority of Americans oppose it, the federal government taking over 1/7 of the economy, continued attacks on coal, then continue to support the Dems. But if you are for openeness, lower taxes, right to life, free enterprise & personal responsibilibty then come over to the party that is truly for the people ---the Republicans.
GOD BLESS

NON-PARTISAN ELECTION OF JUDGES
This is an item I feel is important, but does not receive a lot of publicity. Currently we elect our Judges by a partisan election like every other office. There have been several studies that show that we should change the method. Currently our legislsature is trying to improve the system, by public funding of judicial elections &/or limits on spending. This will only help incumbents & the rich, because we cannot put a limit on how much a candidate spends of their own money. So that method would be no good.
By non-partisan elections it would be soley based on their record or at least what the voters perceive as their record. It would also break up some straight ticket voting.
I believe it is something we need to pursue.

WHY LOWERING TAXES WILL INCREASE STATE REVENUE.
If I am elected to the House of Delegates, I want to eliminate sales tax on food, income tax on SSI for retirees, Income tax on military pay reserve & active duty & lower gasoline taxes. I also want to eliminate taxes on businesses inventory & equipment. For 75 yrs our politicians have said if we lower taxes it will lower revenue. That is not true as shown by many states including our border states. If we lower taxes people will have more money to spend, business will be able to hire more people & both will create jobs, so more people will stay in the state.
For the ones who say this will not work, well we have been raising taxes for 75 yrs & it hasn't worked, this way should be worth a try.

RUNNING FOR HOUSE OF DELEGATES
I will be filling Pre-candidacy papers for the House of Delegates. I would however like to announce that I will be running. Later I will post my position on issues & other info. At this time, however I would like to let you know why I am running.
For many years West Virginia has been near the bottom, if not the bottom of all positive financial &/or economic areas, while border states have flourished, even during tough times. Not coincidentally for many years West Virginia & district 41 have been ran by, basically, the same people. District 41 & WV needs fresh ideas. Although I am considered by many to be a Sr citizen(I'm 60), I feel because of my many associations through church, teaching & coaching I have those fresh ideas.
I will be listing more specifics, but basically, I would like to stimulate our economy by lowering taxes on citizens, as well as business, thereby giving all people more of their own money to spend & creating jobs. I also want to strengthen West Virginia's families.

GARY ABERNATHY - SOME THOUGHTS
I feel the need to post some things on this blog in regards to Gary, instead of commenting on various others & FB.
I do not know Gary as well as many, but I do consider him a friend. Granted I am not aware of everything that went on during both of his tenures as State GOP ED. I do however feel that overall the WVGOP is better off that he has been involved with us.
Were there mistakes, probably. How much was he responsible for the positive things that came about during Kris Warner's administration? Probably more than some would want us to believe & probably not as much as others would. Ditto for the negative things. His book "Elephant Wars" was very entertaining, especially for me since then is when I started getting involved with the WVGOP.
After doing some consulting, he was hired last Dec as ED again, amid some controversy.
I understand the people that were not happy only want the best for the state & the Party & I have no problem with disagreement. I do have a problem with people that complain, but do not offer realistic solutions or stand up and try to implement their programs.
After Gary was hired there were complaints about his hiring, people wanting to get rid of Chairman Mckinney, as well as Gary.
According to the comments on some blogs you had thought there was going to be a hugh revolt.
During all this time, my attitude was if there are enough people, then get rid of them.
However, nothing materialised.
First there was the "Salem witchhunt". Now I have no personal complaints with the people who
organized this(that is what I had been saying), but if I want to have a meeting with maximum attendance, I would not have it in Salem, WV on a Thursday in the middle of winter(this is nothing against Salem, as my family started out there and the restaurant the meeting was at, was where our HC Republican club started).
This meeting was only attended by around 40 people, only 10 WVGOP EXEC Comm members and several that were in favor of the current admin. They also were very disorganized.
Then came the Feb meeting, everyone, including me, was looking forward to this group to at least bring up some suggestions & possibly present an alternate candidate. Nothing happened.
A few days after the meeting I asked on FB why nothing happened & someone said because they didn't have the votes. But according to the blogs, there was supposed to be this great number that wanted rid of Doug & Gary, so what happened.
Now that Gary is leaving there are several coming out again against him, but at least they are giving their names or at least most of them.
As I said at the beginning I know we all want the same thing, the betterment of the WVGOP, so lets now put the past behind us & work for that goal. I would ask the ones complaining if they have a suggestion send it to all the Exec Comm & lets work together to get the party moving forward.
I have 2 suggestions - Ben Beakes & Mike Ankrom.
GOD BLESS
